Grape varieties
 





Over 2,000 years of wine-growing have endowed Catalunya with a wide range of indigenous or traditional Catalan varieties. However, in recent decades, varieties from other grape growing regions, perfectly acclimatised to Catalunya's soil and micro-climate, have created wines of truly excellent organoleptic qualities .

All together, DO CATALUNYA has 27 authorised grape varieties for winemaking.

Among white grape varieties: chardonnay, chenin, garnatxa blanca, gewürztraminer, macabeu, malvasia, malvasia de Sitges, els moscatells, parellada, Pedro Ximénez, picapoll blanc, riesling, sauvignon blanc and xarel·lo.

Among black grape varieties: cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, garnatxa negra, garnatxa peluda, garnatxa tintorera, merlot, monastrell, pinot noir, samsó (carinyena), sumoll, syrah, trepat, and ull de llebre.
